Youth Basketball Coaching
I coach a youth basketball team. ages 12 – 13. need help scoring and passing.?
Basically we figured that if we concentrated on defense and rebounding we would be ok. So, so far 4 weeks into the season losing only to two different teams that are both super league teams and one of them was even a year older than us. We play great D, we dont box out so well but we have them hustling for loose balls. The problem is on offense everybody just kind of stands around. And when we do pass they basically know who they are going to pass it to 30 seconds in advance and dont change their minds. Which means the defense gets in the way and thus causing LOTS and LOTS of turn overs. Are there any drills to help us get scoring and not turning it over?
Well like do this. First show them how to box out. Afterwards shoot the ball and miss on purpose and have like a team of two. Two team members who would be the offense and 2 who would be the defense boxing out and one to grab the rebound. On defense have one person box out while his partner gets the rebound. And as for shooting I’d say have them shoot free throws. Its the only way to improve on shooting. If you can shoot free throws then you’ll be able to shoot. Run lay up drills with both hands. On offense give them this lesson. Tell them that they always have to be moving and never stop. For passing first have them do fake passing drills. Tell them to to look one way fake the pass and then look the other way and pass it. Also tell them this. Tell them if they think someone will steal the ball do the fake pass or tell them to fake pass it to someone who they think will not steal the ball. Idk if I explained everything right but I hope I helped. Good luck on your games
