Strengthing Muscles for basketball?

I play basketball and I want more seriously. I'm still going to school, so there is not much time for practice. My friend (who also plays basketball), said that when I shoot, I move my arm forward, rather than up (like the way you to shoot high, if that makes any sense). I do not think my leg muscles are strong enough to fire properly because when I shoot free throws gotta go, you should not do. I need more muscles than my shooting technique will be nice, no doubt. What exercises can I do that: a) improve the muscles need for basketball, b) not too time consuming (but will improve the muscles at the same time) and c) do not make me too gun (I am a girl and I do not want to be more muscular than the boys). I also have to improve my fitness (for basketball) so if you have good ideas for that, please tell me. My holidays are starting soon so I can get more exercise as I have no homework. I need help with my shooting in basketball?

I need help because I have no idea what I am doing. Ok so I got the ball and what do I do from there. I need exact specific details. I need to know how to form my hands. Should my thumb be in or out and how should I have my hand and how should my form be. Youtube doesnt have what I am looking for. If I missed it and they do please give me the link. Or give me a site that either has a video explaining it or a site with pictures explaining it. Thanks. I will pick a best answer.

I have to assume you are wanting the proper fundamentals of a shot. Here is the easiest way for me to explain it, which is basically step by step instructions. The next time you can grab a ball and walk out to the free throw line then do the following:

1)Lineup with your right big toe directly in front of the rim.
2)Spin the ball to find the air hole.
3)Place the ball on the finger tips of your hand with your index finger on the air hole.
4)Bend your knees to about a 130 degree angle (slightly bent in other words).
5)Draw your elbow in so that there is a straight line going up from your toe through your knee, elbow and out the ball.
6)Extend your knees and release the ball.

That is how a proper fundamental shot is executed. I used to shoot a few hundred every day like that before working on my jump shot just to engrain it in my muscle memory, and still have my players do similar things.

P.S. I assumed you are right handed if you are a lefty just reverse it so that your left toe is in front of the rim.

They look to see if you can catch and shoot fast and have a quick release or if you take a long time to get set up
